Will Sam LaPorta get a contract extension after back surgery? A medical look at his injury risks, plus reader comments on Lions injury prevention strategies.
I think all contracts should be tied to performance on the field. A player is paid a minimum if he misses the season, but not the entire season's contract. He earns so much per game played. Maybe a few little bonuses for actual performance. Maybe a bonus added to the regular contract if the player has played so many seasons or games. I think the player should not be paid in full if he isn't out on the field come game time in the regular season.
Agree. There is a lot of merit to this philosophy. Incentives help keep players motivated, and allows the money to flow to players that actually play and perform.
The last thing we want in the NFL is fully guaranteed contracts like the NBA where players just randomly quit or don't play at a whim.
