NFL Draft 2026: OG medical report - Keylan Rutledge, DJ Campbell, Billy Schrauth
Can the Lions solidify the interior offensive line with one of these players?
The Lions interior offensive line is in major flux this offseason. In the past week, the team added interior offensive lineman Juice Scruggs in the David Montgomery trade, and let go of incumbent starting center, Graham Glasgow.
To help settle the situation, grabbing an instant OG starter in the 2nd round would help tremendously. The following are 3 candidates who could go in that range. One of them is medically clean, while the other 2 have significant injury histories to get worked out.

Medical concern level ranges from 0 (no concern) to 5 (might be worth the risk if the reward is high) to 10 (take him off your board, Brad).

Quick summary of medical concern levels
Keylan Rutledge, OG (23): severe toe injury, epistaxis - 5/10
DJ Campbell, OG (22): reliable, clean - 0/10
Billy Schrauth, OG (22?): recent MCL, bilateral ankle surgeries - 7/10
Keylan Rutledge, OG (23) - Georgia Tech
Projected round 2-3. #75 Jeff Risdon board Feb 19. #4 OG per Mel Kiper.
Concern level 5/10
2025: 13/13 games. Limped off late in Game 1.
2024: 13/13 games
2023: 11/12 games. In December 2023, car crash resulting in left big toe fracture, subsequent infection, multiple toe surgeries, and consideration of amputation.
2022: 11/13 games
Rutledge has proven himself for 2 years after a severe toe injury in 2023. But a big toe injury can have long-term residuals as Lions fans are all too aware of. We have seen a big toe hamper Frank Ragnow for years and possibly cause his retirement. Taylor Decker (who is returning for Year 11) has had his own big toe problem resulting in a sesamoidectomy surgery.
The recurrent nosebleed (epistaxis) issue shouldn’t be a concern beyond the gameday management and jersey laundering. Sometimes, recurrent epistaxis can be due to underlying bleeding disorders, telangiectasias, tumors, liver problems, high blood pressure, or other systemic conditions. But Rutledge certainly already has had a full workup to rule out any serious condition. Lions medical will want to see that workup to confirm the benign nature.
Could the Lions add a Rutledge next to their (Tate) Ratledge?
DJ Campbell OG, (22) - Texas
Projected round 2. #5 OG per Mel Kiper.
Concern level 0/10
2025: 13/13 games. Rolled up on, minor injury.
2024: 16/16 games
2023: 14/14 games. Ankle rolled up on.
2022: 7/13 games
Campbell has been perfectly available the last 3 seasons and has suffered only very minor injuries. He appears to be a very clean prospect and is at the right age. If the Lions want a low-risk, instant-starter in the 2nd round, Campbell might be it.
Billy Schrauth OG, (uncertain age, 22?) Notre Dame
Projected round 3. #6 OG per Mel Kiper.
Concern level 7/10
2025: 7/12 games. MCL injury (Oct 18) ended his season after Game 7.
2024: 12/16 games. Right ankle tightrope surgery, missing 4 games. After season in March 2025, left ankle cleanup surgery.
2023: 13/13 games
Schrauth has a significant history of injuries his last 2 seasons. Bilateral ankle surgeries are certainly a concern moving forward. An ankle cleanup suggests cartilage damage which can have residuals.
His final season ended with an MCL. If the MCL was mild-moderate with no surgery, then it’s not too much of a concern. But the lack of game action after the injury adds risk. If he had surgery, then the concern ramps up as you have increased worry of associated cartilage damage.
At the combine, Schrauth did drills which is somewhat reassuring. However, he did not do any athletic testing (40-yard dash, etc). The lack of testing 5 months post-injury is understandable since he may not have felt like he had adequate time to train, but it does raise the concern.
