NFL Draft 2026: EDGE medical report - Malachi Lawrence, Trey Moore, George Gumbs Jr
Standout performances at the combine could push these EDGE's up the draft
At the NFL combine, there are players that make everyone sit up and take notice with their athleticism. Here are three EDGE players who were not considered elite prospects, but have potentially elevated their stock significantly with great performances at the combine.
Maybe the Lions can find a late-riser here to help their pass rush.

Medical concern level ranges from 0 (no concern) to 5 (might be worth the risk if the reward is high) to 10 (take him off your board, Brad).

Quick summary of medical concern levels
Malachi Lawrence, EDGE (uncertain age, 22?): possible meniscus - 3/10
Trey Moore, EDGE (23): minor injuries, very reliable - 1/10
George Gumbs Jr, EDGE (23): meniscus surgery - 4/10
Malachi Lawrence, EDGE (uncertain age, 22?) - UCF
Projected round 2-3. #43 on Daniel Jeremiah board March 5. Ran 4.52 at combine, 3rd fastest at DE.
Concern level 3/10
2025: 12/12 games. Unspecified injury (possible meniscus) that limited him in the spring.
2024: 11/12 games
2023: 13/13 games
2022: 3 games
The injury that limited Lawrence in early 2025 will need clarification. If it’s a meniscus, that might not be a short-term issue, but could become an issue down the road. His age will also need verification.
He blew up the combine with the 3rd-fastest 40, 2nd-best broad, and 2nd-best vertical of the DE group. In college, he accumulated 28 TFL and 20 sacks.
Trey Moore, EDGE (23) - Texas
Projected round 5-7 . Ran 4.54 40-yard dash at combine, 4th fastest at DE.
Concern level 1/10
2025: 12/13 games. Briefly left his final college game with injury. Opted out of bowl game.
2024: 16/16 games
2023 (UTSA): 12/13 games. Ankle injury limited him. Did not play in bowl game due to transfer.
2022: 14/14 games
2021: 3 games
Moore has been very reliable in his last four years of college with his only missed games being bowl opt-outs. An ankle injury from 2023 is of minimal concern at this point. He did get banged up in his final college game which deserves investigation, but reassuringly worked out at the combine. Age is slightly older than ideal.
He finished college with 50 TFL and 30.5 sacks with most of that production coming at UTSA.
George Gumbs Jr, EDGE (23) - Florida
Projected round 4-7. Ran 4.66 40-yard dash at combine, 9th fastest at DE. His 41” vertical was the best among DE.
Concern level 4/10
2025: 9/12 games. Missed Game 4 with unspecified injury. Right knee meniscus surgery ended his season.
2024: 13/13 games
2023 (Northern Illinois): 12/13 games. Did not play in bowl.
2022: 8/12 games
2021: 4 games
The season-ending meniscus surgery is definitely a concern, but his Shrine Bowl appearance and combine performance are very reassuring for his recovery.
Any kind of meniscus damage can become an issue at some point in the future though. The exact details of the surgery will need to be investigated to determine the extent of the meniscus damage. His age is slightly older than ideal.
His college production was modest with 21 TFL and 11 sacks.
