To get Labor Day Weekend kicked off on a happy note, here are some fun tidbits from the Detroit Lions and the NFL over the past week. For those of you who follow me on X @JimmyLiaoMD, these may look familiar. Substack doesn’t embed X tweets reliably, so click on the screenshot for actual tweet with video.
Did Aaron Donald reincarnate as Skyler Gill-Howard?
This Detroit Lions 6th-round rookie lit up the preseason by consistently wreaking havoc in the backfield. Is it possible he could actually be…?
As expected, SGH made the Lions 53-man roster. Duh, you don’t cut a future 1st-Ballot Hall of Famer.
In desperate efforts to try and keep up with the Lions, the Los Angeles Rams scrambled the very next day to bring back this old dude…
Zonovan “Bam” Knight formally changes name to Bam Knight
August 28, 2026:
The NFL official transactions listed an official name change for former Detroit Lion, “Bam” Knight. I don’t know the NFL rules here. Are players allowed to change their name whenever they want to whatever they want? That opens up a lot of interesting possibilities…
And who can forget the lasting image of the XFL?
Scouting the World Humanoid Robot Games?
The footage of these robots was incredible - the speed, the power, the grit. They would light the NFL Combine on fire (maybe literally).
Judgment Day is indeed approaching fast. (Spoiler alert: We all die.)
However, these robots are not immune to season-ending injuries. Could the athletic upside prove too tempting for Brad Holmes in the next NFL Draft?
Greg Dortch, Double Agent?
Dortch was a surprise release by the Lions, only to sign with the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad.
I do love a good conspiracy theory. Yes, it’s possible Dortch is a double agent. The question is for whom - the Bills or the Lions? Maybe he spent all camp scouting the Lions and is now reporting everything he knows to the Bills. Or maybe the Lions sent him to infiltrate the Bills and secretly report back.
Maybe Dortch doesn’t even know he’s a double agent…
We may get the answer on September 17, Thursday Night Football.
