The Lions add a former elite star to the LB unit
The Lions signed LB Devin White today, which correspondingly raised concern for LB Jimmy Rolder who left practice yesterday with an unspecified leg injury.
Fortunately, there appears to be decent news on the Rolder front…
However, Jeff Risdon reports in his Detroit Lions Podcast that Rolder is not expected to be ready for the start of the season which is 6 weeks away.
Remember that the Lions also added LB Troy Reeder before training camp, so the Lions have stocked up on veteran LB’s recently.

2023: 16/19 games. Groin injury. Foot injury, missed 3 games.

This former 5th overall pick in the 2019 draft is trying to resurrect his career at just 28-years-old. He started his career strong making 2nd-team All-Pro in his 2nd season. But he has never reached those heights again since.
The good news is White doesn’t appear to have any significant medical history and he played all 17 games with the Raiders last season. He did miss some time in the 2024 and 2023 seasons though.
Despite the temporary loss of Jimmy Rolder, the Lions LB room appears very solid with Jack Campbell, Derrick Barnes, and Malcolm Rodriguez. It will be interesting to see how this former elite talent fits in.
