Lions 2026 Training Camp Medical Preview: Quarterbacks
Jared Goff is as durable and reliable as they come
This healthy set of Detroit Lions QB’s is probably the most settled and least concerning positional groups on the team. The health of all of them is excellent heading into the season.

🟢Jared Goff (31)
Medical concern level: 0/10
Not only has Goff’s play been excellent during his five years with the Lions, he’s been incredibly healthy and reliable also. He’s played every game in the past four seasons.
Despite getting hammered last season behind a transitional offensive line, Goff avoided injury. While he may not be a scrambling playmaker like many other QB’s, the benefits of durability and availability can not be overstated.
OUTLOOK: Fully healthy and ready for another excellent season.
🟢Teddy Bridgewater (33)
Medical concern level: 1/10
Since a career (and limb) threatening knee dislocation in 2016, Bridgewater has been healthy and reliable. The only minor concern is his age is starting to get up there.
OUTLOOK: He’s played minimally over the past four NFL seasons, but the Lions clearly trust him as the backup. A couple years ago late in the season, the team scrambled to bring him in as a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency QB after the failed trial of Hendon Hooker. That won’t be necessary this season as Bridgewater is on the team from the start.
🟢Luke Altmyer (23)
Medical concern level: 1/10
A concussion and possible minor shoulder injury are the extent of his college injuries. There isn’t much, if any, concern here.
OUTLOOK: With the top two QB’s firmly locked, Altmyer will spend the entire season on the practice squad with the hopes of earning the backup job in 2027.
