Lions Free Agency Medical Review: Chuck Clark S
The Lions add experienced depth to the safety position in the 4th week of free agency
Week 4 of free agency did not produce much news as teams are focusing now on the draft. The Lions added potentially valuable insurance at the safety position though in Chuck Clark. They also hosted DT Isaiahh Loudermilk but have not signed him as of yet.
Read my Detroit Lions Free Agency Medical Page for a review of all the additions this 2026 offseason.
Here is the injury history and analysis of Chuck Clark:
(Age in parentheses is at start of 2026 season)
Chuck Clark, S (31)
Contract: 1-year, $1.49M with $50,000 guaranteed
Concern level 3/10
2025: 16/18 games.
2024: 12/17 games. Ankle, to IR. Torn pec ended season.
2023: ACL, missed season.
Clark showed good durability upon entering the league in 2017, until his ACL tear in 2023. He has proven recovery since the ACL which is reassuring. The ankle injury and torn pec in 2024 are of low concern, since he followed that up with good reliability in 2025.
Overall, age is the primary concern with Clark along with significant injuries in two of the past three seasons. The risk to the Lions is low since he’s in a (hopefully) backup role and likely on just a 1-year deal. He should provide valuable experience for a position that has major health concerns in 2026 with Kerby Joseph (knee), Brian Branch (Achilles), Thomas Harper (concussions), and Dan Jackson (leg).
